Russia’s Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft brings 3 cosmonauts back to Earth

On Saturday, the Russian Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft, which was carrying three cosmonauts from an international crew, returned to Earth without incident.

The spacecraft returned Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, Belarusian spaceflight participant Marina Vasilevskaya, and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara home on Saturday at 10:17 Moscow time (0717 GMT). The landing occurred close to the Kazakh city of Jezkazgan.

Earlier, the spacecraft had undocked from the Russian section of the International Space Station’s Rassvet research module. In standard mode, the deorbiting and descent to Earth were accomplished.

Loral O’Hara successfully completed a 204-day mission in orbit, while Oleg Novitskiy and Marina Vasilevskaya stayed in orbit for 14 days. With this mission, Novitskiy will have spent a total of 545 days in space—his fourth spaceflight. This trip marks the end of Vasilevskaya and O’Hara’s first spaceflights.
