Suspect in €8.2 million theft turns herself in

After returning from Turkey, the suspect—who is suspected of stealing approximately €8.2 million ($8.9 million) in cash from a money-transport company in Bremen, northern Germany—turned herself into the police.

According to a statement released by the police on Wednesday, the 31-year-old lady was detained as soon as she arrived at Bremen airport on Tuesday morning, despite having told her lawyer that she intended to return.

On Tuesday, the suspect appeared before a judge and was placed on remand. According to the authorities, more inquiries and investigations are still underway.

The woman worked for a money transport company in Bremen, where her job was to package cash and arrange for security transport delivery.

On May 21, 2021, she allegedly stole many bags containing cash before calling in sick to work, according to the police. The theft wasn’t found until the woman had left the country, a few days later. A manhunt has been going on for the culprit ever since.

The Bremen District Court has already found one of the 31-year-old’s accomplices guilty of the theft. In a particularly extreme case, she was found guilty in 2022 of aiding and abetting the theft and received a three-year prison sentence. The accomplice was preparing the escape, among other things.
