Swedish Crown Princess to visit Bangladesh on March 18-21

As a goodwill ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will be in Bangladesh from March 18 to 21.

According to a news announcement from the Swedish embassy here, the Princess will be visiting with UNDP Assistant Secretary General Ulrika Modéer and Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell.

The purpose of the visit is to learn about the development journey of Bangladesh and study the progress and challenges in the implementation of the SDGs, focusing on climate, gender equality, the green and digital transition and the role of the business sector, said the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka on Sunday.

The Crown Princess and the delegation will speak with youth, development partners, organizations, and members of the Bangladeshi government.

They will take part in activities that highlight how the business community can support the shift to a greener, more digital economy.

Themes including digitalization, local solutions, and climate adaptation will be the focus of a number of field trips.

Additionally, the party will travel to Cox’s Bazar and the Rohingya Refugee Camps in southern Bangladesh.

“I look forward to visiting Bangladesh together with the Crown Princess in her role as Goodwill Ambassador for UNDP and with Ulrika Modéer, Assistant Secretary General at UNDP. The Swedish government actively contributes to the implementation of Agenda 2030,” says Forssell, who makes his first visit to the country.

Sweden and Bangladesh’s partnership goes back more than 50 years and consists of long-term development cooperation and extensive trade, he said.
