Bangladesh, Ghana agree to boost trade and business

Ghana and Bangladesh have decided to work together more closely in order to increase trade and business.

“Bangladesh and Ghana have identified various areas to increase cooperation to boost trade and commerce in different sectors, including agriculture, information and communication technology, pharmaceuticals, food processing, jute, leather and garments,” said M Nazrul Islam, the speechwriter for the prime minister.

At a meeting at Ganabhaban here, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Ghana’s Minister of Foreign and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, came to an agreement.

Sheikh Hasina stressed the need for enhancing trade and commerce with the African countries.

“There are huge possibilities to improve trade and commerce with the African nations,” she said.

Bangladesh is a source of textiles and jute products that African nations can import,” she continued.

Ghana’s foreign minister aimed for increased bilateral ties between the two nations.

According to her, there is great potential to expand trade and business between Ghana and Bangladesh.

In order to achieve this, she recommended that the two nations work together more closely in the areas of ICT, pharmacology, agriculture, and agro-based food products.

She asked Bangladesh for support in her nation’s candidacy for the Commonwealth’s Secretary General position, which will be decided in October.

Africa will elect its secretary general of the Commonwealth.

Sheikh Hasina stated that Commonwealth was once a dormant organisation.

“But the Commonwealth is now being playing an active role in enhancing investment and human resource training (among the member states),” she said.

The Commonwealth needs capable leadership in the role of Secretary General, according to the Prime Minister.

M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Principal Secretary, and Ambassador at Large, M. Ziauddin, were present.
