Iran’s ‘oldest’ woman dies at 125: reports

At 125 years old, an Iranian woman who was thought to be the nation’s oldest woman has away, according to local media on Tuesday.

Masoumeh Sanei Toroghi was born in the northern city of Mashhad on September 23, 1898, as stated by state TV, which released an image of her identity card.

She passed away at the age of 125, making her older than Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who passed away in 1997 at the age of 122 and is officially recognized as the oldest person in history.

Iran started keeping family records in 1918, twenty years after Toroghi’s alleged birth year.

Local media announced the passing of an Iranian Kurd in 2020. Based on his identity credentials, he was 138 years old.

Maria Branyas Morera, a Spaniard, is now the oldest person in the world, according to Guinness World Records. She will celebrate her 117th birthday on March 4.
