H&M pulls ad accused of sexualizing kids

The fast-fashion behemoth H&M of Sweden announced on Tuesday that it had removed an advertisement for school uniforms that some felt sexualized young girls.

“Make those heads turn in H&M’s Back to School fashion” was the slogan of the campaign, which debuted in Australia and featured two young girls dressed in school uniforms.

The company was widely criticized on social media over the advertisement, which was later taken down.

“We have removed this ad,” a company spokesperson told AFP. “We are deeply sorry for the offence this has caused and we are looking into how we present campaigns going forward.”

A user named “pickledandpuzzled” questioned how the advertisement had been allowed in the first place on the parenting website Mumsnet.

“It’s been taken down, but why aren’t these things spotted? What’s the thought process that generates these ads?”
