Youth training on climate adaptation has been organized in Kurigram

A 3-day Youth Facilitator Workshop on Climate Justice, Local Leadership Orientation, Deforestation and Advocacy was held at Kurigram.

The environmentalist youth organization Youthnet for Climate Justice has undertaken this initiative in partnership with the British Council.

The three days of instruction at the Almas Community Center in the district town came to an end on Tuesday, January 16.

25 teenagers from 9 upazilas of the district took part in the workshop and highlighted the problems of river erosion, flood, displacement, climate adaptation etc. in Kurigram.

In this 3-day workshop, the trainees are taught hands-on about rights, human rights, climate justice, communication leadership, gender equality, advocacy, environment, climate action etc.

Youthnet Executive Coordinator Sohanur Rahman said the youth empowerment initiative ‘UAdapt’ has been started to accelerate the adaptation of local leadership in Kurigram with the grant of a reception program for the birthday and coronation celebration of King Charles III of Britain. We have organized this to support local-level advocacy on climate risk mitigation by empowering marginalized youth in Char areas of Kurigram.’

Through the project, specialized training, climate sessions, and community radio programs will be organized to engage 3,000 youth of Kurigram and develop their knowledge, skills and leadership, according to organizing sources.
