Dhaka for greater unity among NAM member states

To secure shared global prosperity, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen has called for increased solidarity and unity among NAM member states.

Masud cited the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 1973 statement at the NAM Summit in Algiers, where Bangabandhu emphasized the principles of self-reliance and effective economic cooperation among the non-aligned countries, which remain relevant today, during his speech at the NAM Ministerial meeting in Kampala, Uganda on Wednesday.

The foreign secretary also highlighted the progresses achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and mentioned that the people of Bangladesh re-elected her through a free, fair, peaceful and participatory election to continue her march towards development and prosperity, said a foreign ministry’s press release here this evening.

Masud also demanded that the NAM set up efficient systems to assist the NAM nations in graduating from LDCs and to handle the fallout afterward.

The Foreign Secretary expressed Bangladesh’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s rightful and legitimate struggle for independence from Israeli occupation and oppression while attending the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine.

He exhorted the Movement’s participants to employ every resource at their disposal to bring about an instant ceasefire in Gaza.

After completing the Kampala Declaration and the declaration on Palestine, which are anticipated to be endorsed at the 19th NAM Summit, which is set to take place on January 19–20, 2024, the two-day ministerial meeting on NAM came to a close today.

According to the statement, Bangladesh’s delegation to the 19th NAM Summit will be led by Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud.
