PM Hasina vows Bangladesh’s continued journey towards prosperity

Today, Prime Minister and President of the Awami League Sheikh Hasina pledged that since her party came back to power with the support of the people, the path toward prosperity will continue.

“Bangladesh’s journey toward the socio-economic advancement will be continued,” she wrote while signing the visitors’ book kept on the National Memorial premises after paying homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War with her new cabinet colleagues.

In keeping with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s goal of a “Sonar Bangla” free from poverty and hunger, the prime minister also promised to build it.

She added that the people’s mandate gave the Bangladesh Awami League the advantage in the January 7 election.

“This victory is people’s victory and democracy as well,” she said.

The Prime Minister along with her cabinet colleagues paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War placed another wreath at the altar of the National Memorial at 11am today, a day after taking oath as to form the government for a record fifth term and fourth in a row.

Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister, along with her new cabinet colleagues, honored Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, in Dhanmondi by laying wreaths at his portrait in front of the capital’s Bangabandhu Bhaban.

Sheikh Rehana, the younger sister of the Prime Minister, and the younger daughter of Bangabandhu were there at that time.

Four days after the Awami League won 222 out of 298 parliamentary seats in a landslide in the 12th parliamentary election on January 7, 2024, Sheikh Hasina took office as prime minister for a fifth term.

At 7:06 p.m. on Thursday, at Bangabhaban’s Durbar Hall, President Mohammed Shahabuddin gave Sheikh Hasina and her new ministers the oath of office and the oath of secrecy.

Eleven state ministers and twenty-five ministers made up her council of ministers.
