Advance ticket sales for Taylor Swift concert movie top $100 mn

The movie of Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour has sold more than $100 million in advance tickets globally, according to theater operator AMC, making it the best-selling feature-length concert film in history.

“Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour” is due out on October 13 in 8,500 cinemas in 100 countries.

The movie of Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour has sold more than $100 million in advance tickets globally, according to theater operator AMC, making it the best-selling feature-length concert film in history.

“This Is It,” which grossed $261 million worldwide, is not considered a concert film because it only documents the performance preparations of Michael Jackson, who died before performing on stage.

“Eras” was initially only to be released in the United States, but the singer ultimately chose to make it a global event, even though her tour will include a second leg next year, with dozens of dates in South America, Australia, Asia, Europe, as well as the United States and Canada.

A representative for AMC told AFP that the $100 million in revenue came from every theater that will show the film, including the Cinepolis in Mexico and the Cineplex networks in Canada.

Four thousand of the 8,500 theaters are in North America.

The “Joker” movie from 2019 achieved the all-time North American gross record for an October opening weekend of $96 million.

“Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour” could exceed 100 million during three days, from October 13 to 15, in North America, according to Jeff Bock, of the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.

Images from three of the megastar’s concerts at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, a Los Angeles suburb, in early August are included in the 2H48 movie.

There are now 146 dates on the “Eras” tour.

Each concert generates $13 million in sales, according to Pollstar, the trade publication for the performing arts, bringing the tour’s overall earnings to over $1.9 billion.

An artist or group has never before reached the figurative billion-dollar mark.

AMC said on Monday that singer Beyonce would follow Swift’s lead and have a documentary on her recently-completed “Renaissance” tour released in theaters on December 1.

Following Wall Street’s closing bell, AMC shares increased by almost 2% in electronic trading.
