UNDP delegation meets Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury

A five-person delegation from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), led by Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (RBAP), today paid Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS), a courtesy visit at the latter’s office in this city.

According to a press release, they covered a number of topics during the meeting, including the “My Constituency” app, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation, the Ashrayan Project, the Rohingya crisis, Bangladesh’s transition out of the Least Developed Country (LDC) category, and the Delta Plan 2100.

According to the speaker, the Bangladeshi government’s “Five Year Plan” contains SDG indicators, ensuring the success of the SDG implementation.

She claimed that if the SDG-related data was made available on the “My Constituency” app, the lawmakers would always be aware of the most recent data.

According to Kanni Wignaraja, Bangladesh’s entry onto the LDC list in 2026 is extremely hopeful.

She went on to say that all political parties should take the initiative to increase the number of women running in the national parliamentary elections.

Stefan Liller, the UNDP’s resident representative for Bangladesh, Sonali Dayaratne, and Anwarul Haque, the UNDP’s deputy resident representative for Bangladesh, were among those in attendance.

Also present were senior members of the parliament secretariat.
