Erdogan arrives in Russia for talks with Putin

According to Turkish official media, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived on Monday in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi for talks with Vladimir Putin for restarting the grain export agreement with Ukraine.

Erdogan was joined by a sizable group that included the country’s ministers of defense, foreign affairs, energy, and finance, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.

According to his office, the Turkish president will give a few introductory remarks before the meeting, which will be followed by a news conference.

A UN-backed deal that permitted the safe transit of grain from three Ukrainian Black Sea ports has been actively sought after by Turkey.

Following its withdrawal from the agreement in July, Russia began repeatedly undertaking airstrikes against Ukrainian port facilities.

Turkey, a member of NATO, hopes to relaunch peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv on the basis of the grain accord.

Throughout the war, Ankara has been able to maintain friendly ties with both parties.

Although it avoided the sanctions the West put on Russia, it did give Ukraine weapons.
