Sri Lanka pays back another $100m to Bangladesh

In accordance with a currency swap arrangement two years ago, Sri Lanka borrowed $200 million from Bangladesh, of which another $100 million has already been repaid.

“Sri Lanka has paid back $100 million to us on Thursday (31 August). Now they are expected to return the remaining $50 million in due course,” said Bangladesh Bank (BB) Spokesperson and Executive Director Majbaul Haque.

The Island nation paid back a total of $150 million with the most recent installment. On August 17, Sri Lanka made the initial payment of $50 million.

In August 2021, Bangladesh gave Sri Lanka a loan of $200 million from its foreign exchange reserves to help it deal with its current account issue.
