Romania court lifts Andrew Tate’s house arrest order

A Romanian court revoked a home arrest order against notorious influencer Andrew Tate and his brother on Friday, as the two face human trafficking allegations.

Tate, a self-described misogynist with a big online presence, has also been charged with rape and creating a criminal organization to sexually exploit women.

The court ruled that it “replaces the measure of house arrest of the defendants… with the preventive measure of judicial control, for a period of 60 days, from 4 August 2023 to 2 October 2023”.

Tate, his brother, and two accomplices are required to report to police and are not permitted to leave the Bucharest area without prior approval.
The Tate brothers are barred from meeting with the two Romanian ladies who are also charged in the case.

All four defendants were arrested late last year and placed under house arrest at the end of March. They have frequently appealed the court’s decision to keep them under home arrest.

A trial date has yet to be scheduled.

Prosecutors claim the two brothers and two women formed a criminal organization and sexually abused multiple victims “through acts of physical violence and psychological coercion.”

The victims were allegedly coerced to engage in sexual actions in order to create and distribute pornographic content via social media sites.

Tate relocated to Romania years ago after launching a webcam business in the United Kingdom.

Tate was in the British reality television show “Big Brother” in 2016, but was removed after a video surfaced showing him assaulting a woman.

He then took to social media to spread his contentious beliefs.

His videos on how to be successful, as well as misogynistic and occasionally violent maxims, have made him one of the world’s most well-known influencers.
