Saudi Arabia to host talks on Ukraine on Aug 5-6

In early August, Saudi Arabia hopes to host peace talks on Ukraine. Russia was not invited.

TASS has compiled the important insights from the discussions’ preparations.

On June 26, Germany’s ARD TV channel reported that an international summit on Ukraine had taken place in secret on June 24 in the Danish capital of Copenhagen, including Western diplomats as well as delegates from Brazil, India, China, and South Africa.

On July 20, Andrey Yermak, Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, stated that Ukraine was planning another conference of national security advisors and political directors, which will be attended by officials from the Group of Seven and the Global South.

According to sources, the Wall Street Journal stated on July 29 that a Ukraine-related event bringing together high-ranking officials from 30 nations would be place on August 5-6 in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

South African Presidential Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the country will attend the summit, but will only send one representative rather than an entire entourage. He further stated that the gathering will be attended by representatives from the G7 nations, European Union member states, India, Brazil, and Turkey.

The Czech Republic had previously declared its intention to participate in the negotiations. The Brazilian government also stated that it intends to send a delegation to Jeddah.

According to South African information, an invitation was made to China, but Beijing declined to participate.
