Huawei completes its 25 years of journey in Bangladesh

Huawei has completed its 25 years of journey in Bangladesh, and is committed to working more closely with Bangladesh to assist this country in meeting upcoming goals. The declaration came at the 25-year celebration event of Huawei Bangladesh held last evening in Dhaka.

At the event, the leading global provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices has expressed its gratitude to all their partners and industry stakeholders for the support, trust and guidance. Thus, the event has been named as ’25 years of Togetherness, Journey of Trust, Support & Empowering Bangladesh’.

Pan Junfeng, President of Huawei South Asia and CEO of Huawei Bangladesh, inaugurated the event in presence of Planning Minister M A Mannan, Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar; Ambassador of China to Bangladesh Yao Wen, Chairman of BTRC Shyam Sunder Sikder, ICTD Secretary MD. Shamsul Arefin, and Chairman of Chittagong Exchange Commission Asif Ibrahim.
Government High officials from different Ministries including PTD, ICTD, Education, Power, Engergy and Mineral Resource, Home Affairs, telecom operators, companies from ICT industries, Power industry, and other industry stakeholders, partners were also present at the event.  All these guests were present to celebrate this auspicious moment together with Huawei.

Pan Junfeng shared “Huawei embarked on a new journey here in Bangladesh as a steadfast partner, walking hand in hand with this nation throughout its evolution as one of the emerging economies. Beyond job creation, gender equality and ICT talent ecosystem development, Huawei has consistently prioritized the development of Bangladesh in the last 25 years and will continue to do so in the coming years. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Bangladesh and its people for the unwavering trust on us. Being inspired by this incredible journey, we will keep working to materialize Smart Bangladesh vision and contributing to digital transformation journey”.

Planning Minister M A Mannan said, “Under the visionary and prudent leadership of our Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are marching forward to transform ourselves into a developed nation, riding on the efforts and talent of our people. In this journey, we are receiving support from our friends like China. We want to move forward for the world’s humanity; for that, we need innovative and cutting-edge technologies. I particularly congratulate Huawei for picking Dhaka as their headquarter for all their South Asian activities. Congratulations to Huawei and I wish them success.”

Shyam Sunder Sikder, Chairman of BTRC, said at the event, “Huawei has been contributing so much for building Digital Bangladesh and now they will be giving contributions for building Smart Bangladesh. Huawei puts emphasis on research and development. They have got more than 1,20,000 patents. This is how Huawei is different from others. I would like to extend my congratulations to Huawei for successfully completing 25 years in Bangladesh.”

“With joint efforts of both sides, China and Bangladesh have achieved tremendous results. Under the leadership of honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved Digital Bangladesh and now moving towards Smart Bangladesh. As a true friend to Bangladesh, China stands beside Bangladesh in this and Chinese companies such as Huawei will extend necessary support to realize this vision. I wish Huawei great success in Bangladesh”, said Yao Wen, the ambassador of China to Bangladesh.

Driven by the idea ‘In Bangladesh, For Bangladesh,’ Huawei has contributed in whatever ways possible to Bangladesh’s development and digital transformation since 1998 in this country. In the last 25 years, this company has focused on bringing in ICT and telecommunication services and solutions, developing ICT talents, enabling the ecosystem for Digital Bangladesh, and standing beside the people.

In the telecom sector, Huawei has facilitated the telco industry with 2G, 3G & 4G technologies and played a crucial role in the 5G enrollment. In 2018, Huawei did the 5G trial when the country had just entered the 4G era. Furthermore, in 2021, Huawei facilitated Teletalk and supported Bangladesh to be among the pioneering countries worldwide in launching 5G. Huawei demonstrated the latest 5.5G and industry digital transformation use cases at Digital Bangladesh Mela 2023. Huawei has also provided support to connect more than 15,000 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) with fiber.

In 2018, Huawei started developing digital power business and have built multiple large-scale IPP and rooftop solar power plants, including the Mymensingh 50 MW solar power plant, one of the largest solar power plants in Bangladesh. Until now, Huawei equipment already generate around 380 million unit of renewable electricity, avoid 180 thousand tons of carbon, equal to plant 250 thousand of tree. More than 200MW solar project is on-going.

Huawei is also providing AI based cloud solutions and software and hardware for finance, education, governance, health, media, manufacturing, transportation and other sectors.

At the event, Huawei has vowed to focus on its next phase of journey to catalyze implementation of Smart Bangladesh vision. Meanwhile, Huawei will be bringing in more top-notch technologies and solutions to build a fully connected, intelligent Bangladesh so that everyone is connected, safe and can enjoy the benefits of a smart society.
