Bangladesh urges Singapore to invest in SEZ, high-tech parks

Singapore should invest in Bangladesh’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and high-tech parks, according to Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, given the variety of lucrative opportunities available there.

The request was made during a meeting with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on July 13, 2023, in Jakarta, Indonesia, which was concurrent with the 30th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

Both ministers agreed to hasten the process of the planned FTA between the two nations during the meeting.

The two friendly nations’ strong bilateral relations were discussed, and they reaffirmed their resolve to continuing to improve them while also looking into potential future engagements and cooperation.

Additionally, Momen asked Singapore to bring in medicines from Bangladesh.

In order to foster a welcoming environment for the early, safe, and dignified repatriation of more than 1.2 million Myanmar nationals forcefully evacuated from Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi foreign minister encouraged Singapore to take more coordinated and decisive action.

In addition, he asked Singapore to back Bangladesh’s bid to become the IMO’s Secretary General for the years 2024 to 2027.

In order to hasten Bangladesh’s application to become an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP), the foreign minister requested Singapore’s assistance.

Singapore pledged to provide Bangladesh’s effort to become an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP) its full assistance.

The two nations decided to step up their collaboration in a variety of areas, including commerce, investments, agriculture, the food and beverage industry, health and pharmaceuticals, ICT, connectivity, medical diplomacy, and others.

The discussion came to a successful conclusion with an agreement to work together and share experiences in the coming days to improve the connection between the two nations.
