The UN Human Rights Council demanded on Friday that the risks associated with artificial intelligence be made transparent and that the data collected by AI be utilized responsibly.
Authorities are rushing to figure out how to govern these chatbots and make sure the technology does not damage humans in light of the increase in generative AI material that has occurred since ChatGPT began late last year.
The UN’s top rights council adopted a resolution calling for the “adequate explainability” of actions aided by AI, taking into account “human rights risks arising from these technologies” in its first examination of the growth of AI.
Additionally, it demands for compliance with international human rights law in the use of data in AI systems.
The 47-nation council unanimously approved the resolution, which was co-sponsored by Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Morocco, Singapore, and South Korea.
China and India broke with the consensus but did not demand a vote, which is a position that some nations adopt when they have qualms but do not want to upset the apple cart.
The representative of China informed the council that the resolution contained “controversial content”.
