The body of missing British actor Julian Sands has been identified, according to California authorities, after human remains were discovered by hikers in the foothills outside Los Angeles over the weekend.
Sands, who rose to popularity in 1985 for his performance in “A Room with a View,” went missing in January on Mount San Antonio, also known locally as Mount Baldy.
On Saturday morning, hikers discovered human remains, alerting police, who raced to the location and transferred the body to the local coroner’s office.
“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood,” San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
“The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.”
There were no other details supplied.
Sands was a seasoned hiker who said he was happiest “close to a mountain summit on a glorious cold morning.”
The San Gabriel Mountains’ highest peak, where Sands vanished, is a popular location for Los Angeles residents.
At the time, the San Bernardino County Sheriff stated it was becoming increasingly dangerous, with eight recorded deaths between 2017 and 2022.
