K-pop megastars BTS to release memoir in July

K-pop megastars BTS will issue a memoir in South Korea and the United States in July, according to its US publisher, causing a frenzy among the supergroup’s global audience.

BTS has become a global cultural phenomenon, selling out stadiums and dominating charts worldwide while raking in billions of dollars for South Korea’s economy.

According to the publisher, the book is titled “Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS” and was co-written by South Korean writer Kang Myeong-seok and members of the band.

“Who is excited?… #BTSbook,” US publisher Flatiron Books said Thursday on its Instagram account, sharing a news article about the launch.

Online forums and social media sites were abuzz with speculation about a possible celebrity book release in July, with some commenters speculating that it could be written by Taylor Swift.

Following fan pre-orders, the mystery novel rocketed to the top of the Amazon and Barnes and Noble bestseller lists.

According to the book’s Amazon website, the 544-page memoir by the K-pop trio will be released on July 9th.

It is a tribute to a significant date in the septet’s history: the megastars’ loyal international fan base known as ARMY came into being that day, 10 years ago.

“I’m so looking forward to the book… It’s so cool to be able to look back on the last 10 years with BTS,” one fan wrote on Twitter in Korean.

“Will I be able to buy it since the competition is so global?” another feared.

Anton Hur, Clare Richards, and Slin Jung translated the book for the US version, Hur said in a tweet.

BTS is now on “hiatus,” with members exploring separate projects and two enlisting for obligatory South Korean military service.

All able-bodied men in South Korea are required to serve in the military for at least 18 months, and after a years-long discussion over whether BTS deserved an exemption, Jin, the group’s eldest member, enrolled last year.

J-Hope, the second member of the BTS juggernaut to enlist, began his mandatory South Korean military service this month, according to South Korean media.

Before the break, BTS had six No. 1 hits on the Hot 100, and all seven members of the boyband had solo hits on the top songs chart, according to Billboard.
