Rescued civilians reach Saudi Arabia, Turkey

From Sudan, a boatload of civilians from more than 50 countries arrived in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Germany said that 700 individuals had been evacuated from the nation. DW has the most recent information.

According to the country’s foreign ministry, a ship carrying 1,687 refugees escaping turmoil in Sudan arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The rescue mission was Saudi Arabia’s greatest to date, following the arrival of multiple planes and boatloads of Sudanese migrants in the nation in recent days.

Thirteen Saudi residents were among the rescued civilians, with the remaining passengers hailing from more than 50 different countries.

The group was “transported by one of the kingdom’s ships, and the kingdom was keen to provide all the basic needs of foreign nationals in preparation for their departure,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In the meantime, about 100 Turkish civilians arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday.

It was the first flight of Turkish citizens out of Sudan, and it passed through Ethiopia.

Several other flights are planned to transport the remaining Turkish citizens who have crossed into Ethiopia.

Several countries, notably the United States and Germany, have evacuated their citizens from Sudan as battle continues between the Sudanese army commanded by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemeti.
