Matthew Perry will delete contentious Keanu Reeves remarks from upcoming versions of his memoir

The inflammatory comments the actor Matthew Perry made about Keanu Reeves will no longer be included in upcoming printings of his autobiography, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”

The memoir is an open account of Perry’s battle with addiction and substance misuse. His references to Reeves, including one in an excerpt about the 1993 death of his friend River Phoenix, drew criticism last year, CNN said.

“River was a beautiful man, inside and out – too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” Perry wrote in his memoir.

At the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, Perry, who has previously apologized for his inflammatory remarks, recently expressed regret for the same. He promised to take Reeves’ name out of subsequent printings of his book.

“I said a stupid thing. It was a mean thing to do. I pulled his name because I live on the same street,” Perry said during the panel, noting that “any future versions of the book will not have his name in it.”

Perry is yet to apologise to the Matrix star in person.

“If I run into the guy, I’ll apologise. It was just stupid,” Perry concluded.

Perry’s memoir was published on November 1st of last year.
