SpaceX Dragon crew blasts off for International Space Station

Thursday saw the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket containing two NASA astronauts, a Russian cosmonaut, and the second Emirati to travel to space.

A livestream of the launch from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida revealed that the SpaceX Dragon Crew-6 mission lifted off at 12:34 am (0534 GMT) on Thursday.

A clog in a filter that provides the ignition fluid needed to initiate the rocket engines caused the launch to be scrubbed on Monday just minutes before liftoff.

“Congratulations to the NASA and SpaceX teams for another history-making mission to the International Space Station!” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in a statement.

After a 24-hour journey, the Dragon crew spacecraft Endeavour is planned to touch down with the ISS at 1:17 am (06:17 GMT) on Friday.

Andrei Fedyaev of Russia, Stephen Bowen and Warren Hoburg of NASA, Sultan al-Neyadi of the United Arab Emirates, and others will spend six months on the space station.
