France’s Macron set for four-nation tour of Africa

As anti-French sentiment is at an all-time high in some former colonies, President Emmanuel Macron will begin a tour of Central Africa on Wednesday as part of a diplomatic effort to try out a new “responsible relationship” with the continent.

Prior to traveling to Angola, the Republic of Congo (also known as Congo-Brazzaville), the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo, and lastly Gabon for an environmental summit, he will first stop in Gabon.

Macron’s trip occurs as concerns in Paris about China’s jockeying for position and Russia’s growing impact in French-speaking African nations are growing.

He will go to the One Forest Summit in Gabon to discuss protecting forests all over the globe, including those in the enormous Congo River basin.
