Disney faces dark legacy as it turns 100

Walt Disney, an American illustrator and visionary, developed Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, two iconic characters.

Disney sold twelve pictures, including “Alice’s Wonderland,” to the New York film distribution business MJ Winkler on October 16, 1923, marking the beginning of his entertainment empire.

The agreement marked the beginning of a century of box office triumph for the Disney brand.

Disney has evolved at that period from a film production company to a multi-media entertainment giant with its own streaming service and other subsidiary businesses.

To mark the anniversary, a live-action remake of the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” will be released in cinemas on 26 May 2023. However, the road to the film’s release has been bumpy.
