Russian forces claim gains along Ukraine frontline

Much of the combat was occurring in the eastern city of Bakhmut, which was still in Ukrainian control despite a months-long conflict, as the first anniversary of the Russian invasion drew closer.

On Monday, Russia claimed that its forces had advanced a few kilometers along the Ukrainian frontlines, while Kyiv claimed that its forces had successfully resisted Russian attacks in a number of locations.

Nearing the first anniversary of the Russian invasion, much of the combat was centered on the eastern city of Bakhmut, which was still held by the Ukrainians despite a protracted conflict.

The Russian military shelled heavily along the lines on Monday, according to the Ukrainian military, which also claimed that 16 towns were bombarded close to Bakhmut.

Russian troops, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, made 2 kilometers of westward progress in just four days. It did not, however, specify which area of the extensive frontline, which covered a number of southern and eastern Ukrainian areas, had changed.

“The Russian servicemen broke the enemy’s resistance and advanced several kilometres deeper into its echeloned defence,” it said.

According to the Ukrainian military, its forces successfully repelled a series of assaults throughout the course of the previous day in the Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions as well as close to Bakhmut, which is located in the Donetsk area.
