Dhaka ranks 5th worst in Air Quality Index

Air pollution is still one of Bangladesh’s biggest problems, and on Wednesday morning, Dhaka was named the fifth most polluted city in the world with “unhealthy” air quality.

At 9.15 am, Dhaka’s air quality index (AQI) score was 196.

A measurement of AQI between 201 and 300 is deemed “extremely unhealthy,” while one between 301 and 400 is deemed “hazardous,” causing significant health hazards to locals.

With AQI scores of 306, 255, and 223, respectively, Lahore, Pakistan, Baghdad, and Delhi, India, held the top two positions.

An AQI of 101 to 200 is regarded as “unhealthy,” especially for vulnerable populations.

The AQI in Bangladesh is based on five criterion pollutants: ozone, NO2, CO, SO2, and particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5).
