Travel ban to Bandarban extended till 8 November

As part of a high-security measure, the Bandarban district administration has further extended the interim ban on tourism at Ruma, Rowangchhari, Alikadam, and Thanchi upazilas until 8 November, according to UNB.

Following a letter from the Bandarban Cantonment, a public announcement regarding the extension was made on Friday from the office of the Bandarban Deputy Commissioner.

The travel ban on domestic and foreign tourists has been extended as the law enforcement agencies will patrol and continue intelligence activities in the district against suspected militants, said the notice. This is to ensure public safety and prevent any potential terrorist attacks.

The fourth restriction has been imposed for the safety of tourists in the remote forested areas of the district amid an anti-militancy drive.

The upazilas’ ban on tourism was renewed on October 29 till Friday, November 4.

On the morning of October 18, the administration enacted a temporary ban on visitors to Ruma and Rowangchhari Upazilas.

Due to the same reason, the local government banned visitors from visiting Thanchi and Alikadam Upazilas on October 23.

Today, law enforcement agencies announced a joint drive against the underground extremists and criminals in the district. This effort will help to ensure the safety of the public and bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
