Barisal youth protest to demand climate compensation

Students organized a climate strike in Barisal to call for disaster relief, immediate action to end the use of fossil fuels, and climate justice for a safer planet. The demand was made during a climate strike on Thursday morning, September 22, in front of Ashini Kumar Hall, which was organized by the international student movement Fridays for Future and YouthNet for Climate Justice.

Keeping in front of the theme ‘disaster compensation and renewable energy, this is the solution to the climate crisis, the students of various educational institutions joined with placards containing the demand for compensation from the countries responsible for global carbon and historically. Students raised the main road of Barisal with the slogan ‘We Want Climate Justice’. The climate rally ends at the central Shaheed Minar.

Young people in protest claim wealthy nations are to blame for climate change. But there is a severe problem affecting everyone, including Bangladesh. They must shoulder greater responsibility and fulfill their financial obligations as soon as feasible. Developed countries are required to design, hasten implementation, and fund rights-based adaptation in order to compensate countries that are more vulnerable to climate change.

Demands have been made to put pressure on developed countries to keep the global temperature rise within 1.5 degrees and to stop climate pollution, including stopping investment by multinational corporations in fossil fuel-based power generation to reduce carbon emissions.

It is said from the strike, “For a long time, various developed countries and institutions have been making false promises to reduce carbon emissions to prevent climate change.” One of the United States, China and Japan.
