World Bank Vice President Martin Raiser to visit Bangladesh

Martin Raiser, the World Bank’s vice president for the South Asia region, makes his first trip to Bangladesh tomorrow and will be in Dhaka.

Raiser will meet with the Finance Minister and other top government officials during his three-day visit to discuss World Bank assistance for the nation’s development priorities.

According to a news release, he will also meet with development partners, business executives, members of civil society, and think tanks.

“Bangladesh has made impressive achievements in development sectors and economic growth. The World Bank is proud to be a partner in this remarkable journey during last 50 years,” said Raiser.

“As the countries in South Asia grapple with a multitude of shocks from COVID-19 to climate change and rising global inflation, I look forward to learning about Bangladesh’s experience in building resilience.” added the World Bank Vice President.

Raiser, a citizen of Germany, began serving as the South Asia Region Vice President for the World Bank on July 1.

He served as the Country Director for China, Mongolia, and Director of Korea prior to accepting this position. Additionally, he held positions as Brazil’s and Turkey’s country director.

One of the first organizations to promote Bangladesh’s growth after its independence was the World Bank. Since then, the World Bank has provided the nation with grants, interest-free loans, and favorable credit terms totaling more than $37 billion.
