Garments export from Mongla Port begins after Padma Bridge opening

Following the opening of the Padma Bridge, Dhaka’s garment producers today began exporting massive clothing goods via Mongla Port.

According to a representative of the port authorities, the foreign vessel “MAERSK NESNA,” flying the flag of Panama, sailed to Poland this morning from jetty No. 8 of the nation’s second-largest seaport.

There are currently 27 garment manufacturers exporting readymade garments (RMG), such as T-shirts, Jerseys, Cardigans, Trousers, and Kids’ clothing.

Rear Admiral Md Musa, Chairman of the Mongla Port Authority (MPA), told BSS that after a few days of the Padma Bridge’s inauguration, garment owners began shipping RMG merchandise from the port.

He claimed that through this port, handling of commodities for the foreign ship is now incredibly simple, quick, and safe.

Since transportation costs have decreased as a result of the opening of the Padma Bridge, businessmen are now expressing a strong desire to export their goods through Mongla port, the chairman continued.

After the opening of the Padma Bridge, the distance between Dhaka and Mongla is now roughly 170 kilometers, while the distance between Dhaka and Chittagong is approximately 260 kilometers, or 90 kilometers less than Chattogram port, the official stated.
