‘The Power of the Dog’ leads Oscar nominations with 12

With 12 Oscar nominations, Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog,” an unnerving psychological Western about a repressed 1920s cattle rancher in Montana, took the lead in Hollywood’s awards race.

With ten nominations, the sprawling sci-fi epic “Dune” came in second for the Academy Awards, which will be held on March 27 in Hollywood.

“Belfast,” Kenneth Branagh’s black-and-white semi-autobiographical depiction of Northern Ireland violence in the 1960s, and Steven Spielberg’s reinvented “West Side Story” tied for third place with seven nominations each.

The British acting nominees in the major categories include Olivia Colman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Andrew Garfield.

Supporting actors Dame Judi Dench and Ciarán Hinds have been nominated.

Belfast, Sir Kenneth Branagh’s autobiographical black-and-white film about a family in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, included both of them.
