Nation set to celebrate 51st Victory Day

Tomorrow, the country will commemorate the 51st Victory Day, the most important day in the lives of the Bangalee people, since the country was liberated from Pakistani occupation troops 50 years ago on this day after a nine-month bloodbath.

Bangladesh became an independent country on December 16, 1971, under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, at the expense of the lives of three million people and the honor of nearly half a million women.

The centennial of the birth of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the country’s independence have brought a new depth to this year’s Victory Day celebrations.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent separate greetings on the anniversary today, paying glowing honors to the Liberation War dead of 1971.

The National Implementation Committee of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Birth Centenary Celebration has organized a two-day special program titled ‘the Great Hero of the Great Victory’ at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad in the city from December 16 to 17.
