Grameenphone received the highest taxpayer award for six successive years

Grameenphone, tech service leader and connectivity partner to Digital Bangladesh, has been awarded the highest taxpayer in 2020-2021 tax year in the telecommunication category by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for the sixth time in a row since the tax year 2015-2016, for its highest amount of tax contribution to the state coffer.

In a bid to honor the highest taxpayers with cards and crests, NBR has organized an event on November 24, 2021, in the capitals Officers’ Club. A H M Mustafa Kamal, FCA, MP, Honorable Finance Minister, embellished the event as the Chief Guest, while Md. Jashim Uddin, President, FBCCI, was present as the Special Guest. Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, Senior Secretary, Internal Resources Division (IRD) and Chairman, NBR, presided over the ceremony. At the event, Jens Becker, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Grameenphone, was handed off the tax card, crest, and certificate for the significant contribution Grameenphone has made to the government expenditure on economic infrastructure for the betterment of the citizens.

Earlier, Grameenphone was acknowledged as the highest taxpayer by the National Board of Revenue has for the tax years 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020 in the telecommunication category.

Jens Becker, CFO of Grameenphone, expressed his gratitude and joy upon being awarded by the apex body of tax administration in Bangladesh. He said, “We are humbled to achieve this milestone through our strong governance and commitment towards ethical business practices. We are honored to contribute to the national exchequer and further progress towards our shared vision of a self-sustained Digital Bangladesh and empower the nation. This achievement is a testimony of digitalization and automation by NBR, and their continuous support and acknowledgment inspires us to excel ourselves.”

During the event, the National Board of Revenue has recognized a total of 141 highest taxpayers, including 75 individuals, who contributed the highest amount of taxes to the national exchequer for fiscal 2020-2021.
