Sudan’s military sign deal to reinstate ousted PM Hamdok

Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok is ready to return to power just weeks after the country’s military deposed him. As protests against military leaders continued, at least one protester was slain.

Sudan’s military chiefs endorsed an agreement on Sunday to return Abdalla Hamdok as prime minister after weeks of discussions.

Hamdok, who was deposed on October 25, will now run a technocratic government until elections can be held for a “transitional period.” It was unclear how much power the civilian administration would have right away.

“Sudanese blood is precious, let us stop the bloodshed and direct the youth’s energy into building and development,” Hamdok said after the signing of the deal.

The agreement has “encouraged” the United States, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
