Mobile cinema allows residents to watch movies on big screen in Gaza

Aaid al-Qatanani, a young Palestinian guy from Gaza, entered a cinema auditorium for the first time in his life to watch a foreign film.

The 22-year-old computer engineer was one of 40 young individuals who sat on red seats in a small cinema auditorium, eating popcorn while watching a film.

“Entering the cinema was a thrilling experience. I had many dreams of seeing my favourite movie there instead of on TV or on the internet “Xinhua quoted al-Qatanani as saying.

The cinema is a movable one, made from a large passenger bus, which is unlike what people see in other nations.

The bus has seating for roughly 50 people and a wheelchair ramp for those who need it. The projectors are powered by solar energy and include an integrated security system with emergency doors, alarms, firefighting equipment, air conditioning, and ventilation.

“For the majority of my life, I’ve watched my father, uncles, and others struggle to provide for their families’ fundamental requirements. I don’t recall my parents taking me to the movies when I was younger “All they cared about, Qatanani recalled, was keeping the family afloat.

Elham Jasir, a young woman from the northern Gaza Strip’s Jabaliya refugee camp, said she felt like she was in a another country when she entered the theatre.
