Domestic flights to resume from Friday in Bangladesh

In a gradual relaxation of the protracted Covid-19 lockdown, the government has permitted domestic planes to resume operations on all routes beginning Friday.

The information was confirmed in a cabinet division notification on lockdown limits sent out on Thursday. Following the notification, US-Bangla Airlines issued a press release announcing the resumption of flights on all domestic routes beginning August 6 in accordance with health requirements.

According to the press announcement, the airline has planned to fly to Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Syedpur, Jessore, Sylhet, Barisal, and Rajshahi from Dhaka. Novoair said in a statement that it will fly six daily flights from Dhaka to Chittagong, Syedpur, and Jessore, as well as two flights to Barisal, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Cox’s Bazar.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines will fly from Dhaka to Chittagong and Syedpur on Friday, with one trip each to Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar, Rajshahi, Barisal, and Jessore.

From Saturday, the airways will operate three regular flights to Chittagong and Syedpur, as well as two flights to Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar, Barisal, and Jessore, with only one flight to Rajshahi.

During the lockdown, CAAB allowed three local airlines to conduct flights carrying solely international passengers to the port of departure on July 23.

In an effort to prevent the virus’s spread, the government decided to prolong the statewide severe lockdown until August 10 in response to an increase in Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations.

On Thursday, the Cabinet Division issued a notice that would be in effect from 12 a.m. on August 5 until 12 a.m. on August 10.
