An insurgent spokesperson claimed Wednesday that Taliban authorities have informed China that Afghanistan will not be used as a base by forces conspiring against another country.
As the rebels continue their sweeping advance across Afghanistan, including areas along their shared border, a top-level Taliban team is in China for talks with Beijing authorities, according to spokesman Mohammad Naeem.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, a co-founder of the hardline movement, leads the nine-member delegation.
“China was promised by the Islamic Emirate that Afghanistan’s soil would not be utilized against the security of any country,” Naeem stated.
“They (China) committed not to meddle in Afghan issues, but rather to assist in the resolution of difficulties and the establishment of peace.”
