Video-on-demand service Netflix launched two new kid-friendly services on Wednesday: Kids Top 10 and Kids Recap Email.
While the Kids Top 10 will debut on Wednesday, the Kids Recap Email will begin sending out bi-monthly on July 16th. The Kids Recap Email will be sent to all members who have at least one active kid’s profile on their account, and the Kids Top 10 will be available in 93 countries on all devices (excluding AppleTV).
“Shows and movies are a vital method for children to engage with the world, as they help them learn about new locations, form ties with family and friends, and comprehend different viewpoints. So, in a blog post, Netflix’s Director of Product Innovation, Jennifer Nieva, said, “We’re launching two new features to help families connect around their favourite series and films or discover their next favourite—whether it’s a fantasy film like ‘Wish Dragon’ or an action-adventure series like ‘Ridley Jones’.”
The bi-weekly kids recap emails will give parents a better understanding of their child’s preferences and new ways to engage those interests, such as recommendations based on the child’s favourite shows and movies; printable colouring sheets and activities inspired by kid’s favourite characters; top themes or topics charts that show the types of programs the child enjoys most (that is, science, friendship, etc. ); and top themes or topics charts that show the types of programs the child enjoys most (that is, science, friendship, etc.
The Kids Top 10 rows will be updated daily and will include the most popular children’s entertainment, such as shows and movies, as well as a maturity rating.
The goal of the feature is to build a one-of-a-kind collection of best-in-class stories from which to choose—and to ensure that every child and family sees themselves represented on television. When picking what to watch, the Youngsters Top 10 will help kids, pre-teens, and parents see what’s popular, especially when they’re all together as a family.
