US to send 3m more vaccine to Bangladesh as gift

Under the COVAX framework, the United States (US) will supply three million extra doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift.

The US embassy in Bangladesh tweets this morning, “Pleased to announce another donation of 3 million doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arriving to Bangladesh from the American people via COVAX.”

He stated that the United States is dedicated to increase its vaccine supply in order to combat the pandemic in the United States and around the world.

These Moderna vaccine doses are part of a recent US government distribution of 25 million vaccine doses for Asian countries, as President Joe Biden pledged to share US vaccine doses with other countries across the world via COVAX or directly.

The COVAX is a global program led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and the World Health Organization to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

Bangladesh got 2.5 million doses of Moderna COVID 19 vaccine as a gift from the United States (US) on July 2 and 3, as part of the COVAX agreement.

While handing over the vaccine to Bangladesh, Miller stated that the US recognizes the importance of providing Bangladesh with a “safe” and “effective” COVID vaccine.
