The Taliban claim to have control of 85 percent of Afghanistan

The Taliban claimed control of 85 percent of Afghanistan’s land on Friday, despite the fact that the group’s claims cannot be independently verified. The insurgents are mounting an attack amid a US military departure.

Taliban negotiator Shahabuddin Delawar declared at a news conference in Moscow that the organization controls “85 percent of Afghanistan’s territory,” including 250 of the country’s 398 districts.

“On this land, all administrative entities and hospitals continue to operate. He urged international organizations not to “disrupt their missions” by ensuring their functionality.”

According to Delawar, the US pullout was the result of the Taliban winning over Afghanistan’s population through the “idea of Islam.”

After a brutal Taliban onslaught in Afghanistan’s north, more than 1,000 Afghan troops escaped to Tajikistan this week.

Afghan authorities have vowed to recover all insurgent-held areas and have deployed hundreds of commandos to counter the rebels’ push in the north.

Moscow is keeping a careful eye on the offensive, since it is concerned about the security of its military sites in Central Asia.
