Bangladeshi Digital Financial Service Nagad, the mobile financial service wing of the Bangladesh Post Office, will disburse the government’s financial aid to 300 institutions under the Technical and Madrasah Education Division.
Taka 5 crore allowance will be provided to more than 8,000 teachers, staff and students to help them during the Covid 19 pandemic.
An agreement was signed on Monday in this regard with the Technical and Madrasa Education Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Technical and Madrasa Education Division (Ministry of Education) Additional Secretary Moniruzzaman and the Executive Director of Nagad, Md Safayet Alam, signed the deal on behalf of their respective organizations, said a press release today.
Sabina Yasmin, Senior Assistant Secretary, Technical and Madrasa Education Division (Ministry of Education) and Mannaf Parag, Nagad’s Head of Government Sales, were present on the occasion.
The government will provide Tk 75 lakh to 300 selected educational institutions as assistance during the ongoing Pandemic. A total of Tk 50 lakh will be provided to 500 education staff and Tk 3.75 crore to some 7,536 students.
The cost of cashing out this government assistance will be added so that there is no additional cost.
Technical and Madrasa Education Division (Ministry of Education) Additional Secretary, Md Moniruzzaman said that Nagad has created an example in recent times in the distribution of government allowances.
“Substantial presence across the country and quality service are the key of Nagad which prompted us for this collaboration,” he added.
Executive Director of Nagad Md Safayet Alam said, “We are proud to be a part in the way that the government has stood by the teachers, staff and students as part of the COVID-19 assistance in times of emergency. Nagad’s purpose is to serve people with digital solutions and we are happy that we are able to fulfil the promise,” he said.
In 2020-21, Nagad disbursed 75 per cent of the allowances under the social safety net programmes of the Social Welfare Department.
Nagad also disbursed twice the majority portions of the Prime Minister’s Eid gifts and the allowance for pandemic affected farmers, fishermen and others. Moreover, Nagad also disbursed stipends to 1.4 crore primary school students.
The digitalization of government allowances, stipends, financial assistance has been a key feature of Nagad which was acclaimed by all as it has ensured transparency and helped saving public money.
