Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will run for president again

Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is running again in the election next June. Earlier on Wednesday, he registered as a candidate. Reuters writes that Ahmadinejad’s candidacy is being seen as a test of the legitimacy of the country’s religious rulers.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stepped down as president of Iran in 2013 due to presidential binding rules. After that, Hassan Rouhani is still in power as the President of Iran with an absolute majority in the elections.

“People must be included in Iran’s decision-making process,” Ahmadinejad said after registering for the election, according to the country’s state-run TV. We must all prepare for the fundamental reforms (in the state system). ‘

The registration process of candidates for voting has started from last Tuesday. The last day of registration is next Saturday. The eligibility of registered candidates will be verified by a 12-member ‘Guardian Council’. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has appointed all six.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader, backed Ahmadinejad in 2009 when dozens of people were killed and hundreds arrested after protests erupted after his re-election.

But the conflict began when Ahmadinejad backed Ayatollah Khamenei’s ultimate power in a position to be reconsidered. He then registered to run in the 2016 election, but the Guardian Council rejected his candidacy.
