Sadiq Khan re-elected as mayor of London

Sadiq Khan, a UK politician of Pakistani descent, has been re-elected mayor of London, the capital of the United Kingdom. He was re-elected to the post on Saturday (May 6th) local time after serving as the city’s first Muslim mayor. He will serve as the city’s mayor for another three years.

According to the BBC, Sadiq Khan, who is contesting the election as a Labor Party candidate, got 12 lakh 6 thousand 34 votes. His nearest rival, the ruling Conservative Party candidate Saun Bailey, received 9,77,601 votes.

In other words, Sadiq Khan was elected with 55.2% of the votes. On the other hand, Green Party candidate Cyan Berry, who is in third place, got about one lakh 96 thousand votes.

In 2016, Sadiq Khan was elected the first Muslim mayor of London. He is also the first mayor of Asian descent in the history of London. Sadiq Khan, of Pakistani descent, was born in South London on October 6, 1970, but his family immigrated to the United Kingdom in 1947.
