The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the Moderna vaccine for emergency coronavirus use. So far, the company has approved a total of five ticks.
The WHO said in a statement on Friday that its goal was to make medicines, vaccines, and diagnostics readily available as soon as possible in case of an emergency.
Mariangela Simao, the agency’s assistant director-general, said there were problems with the supply of vaccines from various places, including India. For this reason, it has become important to make more vaccines readily available.
India has stopped exporting vaccines abroad since March in the face of deadly coronavirus infection.
In this context, the US pharmaceutical company Moderna announced this week that it plans to increase vaccine production capacity to 300 million doses by 2022.
Just last January, the World Health Organization’s Vaccine Expert Group (SAGE) recommended the use of modern vaccines for people over the age of 18.
The WHO approved the emergency use of the Pfizer-Bioentech vaccine, based on modern mRNA technology, late last year.
