Myanmar’s military junta has faced condemnation on its first foreign trip

Myanmar’s junta chief Min Aung Laing was condemned on his first foreign trip. On Saturday, the regional alliance – ASEAN – pressed for an immediate end to the deadly violence.

An emergency conference was called in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. During the two-hour discussion, the leaders of the alliance slammed the junta chief. He said the current situation in Myanmar is unacceptable.

If the violence continues; ASEAN will be forced to take drastic action. At the same time, regional leaders called for the unconditional release of prisoners, including state adviser Suu Kyi.

Coalition representatives were also urged to gain access to Myanmar to monitor the situation. At least six people have been killed in violence since a military coup took control of Myanmar on February 1. More than 3 thousand prisoners.
