Lou Ottens, father of audio cassettes has died

Audio cassettes have revolutionized the world of Lou Otens Time MagazineKegan. The inventor was the Dutch engineer Lou Otens. He died in his hometown of Diesel on March 6 (Sunday). He was 94 at the time of his death. His family officially announced the matter on March 9 (Tuesday).

In 1970, Lou Ottens took over as head of Philips’ product development department. He made cassette tapes there. It was unveiled at the 1983 Berlin Radio Electronics Fair. Since then, audio cassette tapes have spread around the world.

Japanese companies started bringing audio tapes to the market. But the cassettes were different in size. Ottens contracted with Phillips and Sony to solve this problem. He was not only involved in making cassettes but also in making CDs. So far, more than 20,000 crore CDs have been sold in the world.

Lou Ottens retired four years after inventing the CD player. He regretted only one thing in his career. That is with the iconic cassette player. Which was created by Sony.

It is to be noted that the demand for cassette tapes has increased in the last few years. Artists such as US pop stars Lady Gaga and The Killers have released songs on cassette. According to the official charts company in the United Kingdom, cassette sales increased by 103 percent last year compared to 2019.
