Journalists’ Forum Assam mourns the death of journalist Padmeswar Chitrakar

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) conveyed sorrows at the death of senior journalist Padmeswar Chitrakar on May 6th in Guwahati suffering from illness.

The forum also wishes an quick recovery to a different city based scribe Mozahidul Haque, who is currently undergoing medical treatments at Dispur Hospital.

Ganeshguri. Chitrakar was working for a news channel named NewsTimeAssam till his death. Previously, he worked for Dainandin Barta, Gana Adhikar, Dainik Janasadharan, Dainik Pratibedan, Aji, Jagrita, Amar Pragati, Saptahik Krishak Bondhu etc. He was Born at Simaluguri in Sivasagar district. Padmeswar Chitrakar left behind his wife Bina Chitrakar with a number of close relatives and well-wishers.

On the other side, Mr. Haque started his career as a journalist by joining Sandhya Batori (Natun Dainik) and thereafter, he worked in Asomiya Khabar for a longer term. He is suffering from nephrology related complications for some time. Budget constraints and current lockdown have made him stopped from taking follow up treatment which is otherwise emerged very much needed.

“With Chitrakar, we have lost the third journalist to ailments in Assam (after Pranjal Hazarika from Jorhat and Bhaskar Dutta from Lakhimpur) during the nationwide lockdown,” said a statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria adding that persons working in media should not ignore mandatory (healthcare) preventive measures for them and their family members.

Nava Thakuria is a Guwahati (North East India) based journalist, who contributes to News Hour and various other media outlets. He writes over various socio-political and environmental issues of North East India along with Bangladesh, Burma, Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal. One of his areas of interest is also the media and its development.
