Belgian league delays vote on ending season again

The Belgian professional League declared on Sunday that it had delayed for the third time a gathering which will decide whether or not to finish the season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The professional League Board of directors has today determined to hold over the general Assembly from May 4 to May 15,” the league said in a very statement.

The board of directors of the professional League suggested on April 2 that the season be declared over, however, this needs to be approved at a general meeting.

One was scheduled for April 15 however delayed first till April 24 then to Monday before Sunday’s decision to keep off the meeting another 11 days.

The league said that clubs — who are principally in favor of ending the season — are awaiting a recommendation from Belgium’s National security council before making a final judgment.

However a restart appearance unlikely because the Belgian government has prohibited all mass gatherings till August 31, and also the Belgian football federation says that even a match behind closed doors would mobilize a minimum of 400 individuals.
