US Ambassador Miller honors journalists fallen ill from COVID-19

The USA Ambassador to Bangladesh earl R Miller these days paid tribute to the Bangladeshi journalists who have been stricken by a deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) while playing their duties.

“We honor the journalists who have fallen sick from COVID-19 and their unselfish dedication to public service,” he aforesaid during a statement these days marking the World Press Freedom Day.

The work of journalists, photojournalists, and media outlets usually comes with sacrifice anyplace, together with here in Bangladesh, the statement said.

The USA envoy additionally expressed his sincere condolences at the death of Humayan Kabir Khokon, the first journalist of Bangladesh who dies of COVID-19.

“We honor the life of Humayan Kabir Khokon, a senior journalist who worked till the day of his death and posthumously tested positive for the virus,” he said.

On World Press Freedom Day, May 3, Miller said US joins countries around the world to reaffirm the universal right of free expression and also the essential role press freedom plays in protective democracy and keeping informed upon and safe.

“This year, we pay special tribute to those journalists who work indefatigably, usually underneath stressful and dangerous conditions, to tell the general public about the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

The USA honors all journalists, everywhere, who have sacrificed their lives, freedom and own well-being in pursuit of truth and justice, he added.
